Jackson Paul had comfortably settled into a quiet life; teaching, research, and a quick drink with a friend once a week down at the bar. After a devastating breakup, it had seemed best and just became second nature. Budget cuts at his university, Rochester Technic, leave him not only unemployed, but forced to reinvent himself at forty-three.

With a little money in savings, the plan turns towards making documentaries, and how to keep those savings from evaporating overnight while waiting for a little success to roll in.

The tutoring gig his old chair up at the university recommended him for wasn’t his favorite option, but he knew it would beat anything else he’d drum up on short notice. The client was the most recent wife of the local computer magnate, needing help with her U.S. Citizenship exam. At the very least, he wouldn’t be working with overparented children.

The change of jobs ushers in more changes, though. After a couple of years of a Monday night drink down at Tanner’s with his now ex-coworker Ed, he suddenly has a date with Marlee, the bartender he’d always considered way out of his league.

Then there’s Feather, one of Jackson’s former students. With her graduation from Rock-T just around the corner and his recommendation to the graduate program in hand, the curvaceous blonde stunner seems to be throwing out not-too-subtle hints. Hints that she is fully aware he has kept his eyes and thoughts off her for contractual reasons and she’s ready for that to come to an end.

After taming the ‘mean girl’ Evangeline and cozying up to the girl-next-door Kaley, he tries to settle in and actually get some work done without the constant distraction of his gorgeous trophy wife entourage.

As he settles into his new role as father, he’s having to navigate the growing feelings he has towards fellow parent Kaley as well as her feelings and his own towards his housekeeper, Paola. Transitioning from unrecognized loneliness to a household with two lovers and three children is a challenge he never expected to have to grapple with, so early after his planned early retirement.

With all the potential pitfalls of his relationships at home, John’s facing a hot pursuit by the hot ex-wife of Walter Transen, whose current wife Alice seduced him early on in his PTA journey. Not knowing if the powerful woman knows that detail of his life has kept him avoiding her, at least until he’s sewn up all the details of his happy household.

Cole Soprano’s autism doesn’t usually keep him down. Freshly graduated from Rochester Technic, he’s been awarded an exclusive internship at Transco Enterprises, the mysterious company that’s the talk of the town due to their secrecy and strict non-disclosure agreements. His social anxiety issues do wreak havoc on his love life, however, and as he turns a new page with his new job, he’s hoping that will change as well.

Little does he know just how much things are about to change.

On the work front, he’s faced with being Transco’s second intern and considering no one has heard from Tran Nguyen since he accepted the first one, it’s causing him some concern. As an intern, he’s surprised to be greeted at the door by Alexa, his gorgeous personal assistant, and no one else. ‘Working independently’, as Alexa tells him, is one thing, not being told what he’s supposed to be doing is something else entirely. With a degree in chemical engineering, the conference room she describes as his lab wasn’t expected, nor were the elaborate, intricately carved wooden doors dominating it.

On the relationship front, a chance meeting with his unattainable high school crush Miley Adams, four years after their graduation, kicks off another fresh start for Cole. Suddenly, she opens him up to a whirlwind of new social encounters that stretch his fragile bubble as she pulls him into an unfamiliar world of passion and polyamorous relationships.

That’s not the only unfamiliar world Cole faces, though. As if starting a new job and a new relationship wouldn’t create enough of a problem with his work/life balance, discovering that the mysterious doors in his new office lead to another world of crossbow-armed soldiers and fairy folk complicates things even more.
